Ribes sanguineum (Winter Currant)
Ribes sanguineum, commonly known as Winter Currant, is a deciduous shrub native to the west coast. It is known for its clusters of pendulous, pink or reddish flowers that bloom in late winter or early spring before the leaves emerge. The plant is also adorned with dark green, lobed leaves that turn yellow in the fall. Winter Currant can reach a height of 6-10 feet and has a similar spread. It is hardy in USDA zones 5-6b.
