Rhus glabra, also known as Smooth Sumac or Scarlet Sumac, is a deciduous shrub that belongs to the Anacardiaceae family. It is native to North America and is commonly found in open areas, along roadsides, and in woodland edges. This shrub has a spreading colonizing growth habit and can reach a height of 10 to 15 feet. The leaves are smooth and green during summer, turning bright scarlet in fall, providing a striking display of color. It produces clusters of small yellowish-green flowers in early summer, followed by red fruit clusters that persist throughout the winter.
