Prunus serotina (Rum/Black Cherry)
Prunus serotina, commonly known as Rum Cherry or Black Cherry, is a medium to large-sized deciduous tree native to North America. It has an attractive conical to oval shape, with dark green leaves that turn shades of yellow and red in the fall. The tree produces fragrant clusters of white flowers in the spring, followed by dark ripe cherries which are a favorite food for birds. The bark of Prunus serotina is dark and smooth when young, but becomes rough and fissured as the tree matures.
