Ostrya virginiana, commonly known as American Hophornbeam or Ironwood, is a small to medium-sized deciduous tree native to eastern North America. It is known for its strong, hard wood, hence the name Ironwood. The leaves are dark green, with serrated edges, and turn yellow in the fall. In the spring, the tree is covered in hanging, yellow-green catkins.
