Metrosideros excelsa, commonly known as Pohutukawa, is a species of evergreen tree in the myrtle family, Myrtaceae. It is native to New Zealand and is known for its vibrant red flowers that burst open in late spring and summer. Pohutukawa trees have thick, gnarled trunks and small, leathery leaves that provide year-round interest. They can reach a height of 30-45 feet and a width of 20-30 feet.
