Mahonia nervosa, commonly known as Longleaf or Cascades Mahonia, is a low-growing evergreen shrub native to the Pacific Northwest region of North America. It typically reaches a height of 12-18 inches and forms dense, spreading clumps. The dark green glossy leaves have sharply toothed edges, and clusters of bright yellow flowers bloom in late winter or early spring, followed by dark blue-black berries in summer. This shade-tolerant plant is often used as a ground cover or in rock gardens.
