Gymnocarpium dryopteris, commonly known as Western or Common Oak Fern, is a deciduous fern that is native to North America. Its delicate fronds emerge in spring and resemble the leaves of an oak tree, hence the common name. The fronds have a feathery appearance and are light green in color. This fern prefers moist, shaded areas such as woodlands and stream banks.
