Fouquieria splendens (Ocotillo)
The Ocotillo is a unique and striking desert plant native to the southwestern United States and Mexico. It is known for its long and slender spiny stems that can reach heights of up to 20 feet. During periods of rainfall, the Ocotillo produces beautiful clusters of bright red, tubular flowers at the ends of its branches. In drier conditions, the plant becomes dormant and sheds its leaves, making it appear like a bundle of spiny sticks. Despite its rugged appearance, the Ocotillo is adapted to thrive in arid environments.
