Cliftonia monophylla, commonly known as Buckwheat-tree or Titi, is a deciduous shrub native to the southeastern United States. It is known for its beautiful clusters of small, white flowers that bloom in late summer and early fall. The leaves are glossy, leathery, and dark green, turning vibrant shades of red and orange in the fall. Buckwheat-tree is a slow-growing plant that can reach a height of up to 15 feet and a width of 6-8 feet when mature. It prefers growing in moist, acidic soils and is commonly found in wetland areas and along stream banks.
