Alnus rubra (Oregon/Red Alder)
Alnus rubra, commonly known as Oregon Alder or Red Alder, is a deciduous tree native to the Pacific Northwest region of North America. It has alternate, broadly ovate leaves that turn yellow in the fall. The bark is smooth and dark gray, becoming rough and scaly with age. Red Alder is an important tree for ecological restoration projects as it is a nitrogen-fixing pioneer species that helps to enrich the soil.
